The attributes of the opanci (name in plural) are that they are a construction of leather, with no laces; they are durable, with various decorations that distinguish them region to region. Opanci are also considered as the traditional peasant footwear for people in the Balkan region. They were historically worn by farmers, but are now primarily used in folklore costumes and dancing.
