Filigree is a delicate kind of jewelry metalwork, usually of silver, made with twisted threads that have been soldered together on to the surface of an object of the same metal and arranged in artistic motifs. It often suggests lace and/or fretted scrollwork, and remains popular in traditional, antique Croatian jewelry stores. Most of the Croatian filigree jewelry found in Croatia today is either an antique or made by 3rd generation family jewelers who still use the older tools. Though filigree has become a special branch of jewelry in modern times, it was historically part of the ordinary, daily work of the jeweler.
There are very few jewelers left in Croatia who do this very tedious and intense work by hand and much of what is sold as “filigree” nowadays is jewelry that has been machine made. We were extremely lucky in Croatia this year to meet up with a jeweler who creates his own antique, handmade FILIGREE jewelry at affordable prices. We are passing along the savings to you, our customers, in the hopes that you will want to own a little piece of Croatian history in order to help keep our beautiful traditions alive!
GENUINE. EXQUISITE. TRADITIONAL.
