The Peshtemal is flat-woven with hand-tied fringe, typically made of 100% cotton and woven on a loom. We have imported these from a woman in Croatia for our store, and have since fallen in love with them...they are so highly absorbent, quick to dry, very soft, and have so many uses! And of course, the design is exclusive to CROATIA!

Peshtemals are lightweight, thin and extremely absorbent. They are large in size (ours are 3 feet x 5.5 feet), but are very compact.  Unlike a thick terrycloth towel, peshtemals are flat-woven with a smooth, soft texture.  

Are they earth-friendly? Yes! Peshtemals are so lightweight, they are more energy-efficient than a typical terry cloth towel. They dry more quickly after use, so they don't take on a musty smell. The environmentally friendly result - they don't need laundering as often.
